The Australian Government, on 18 June 1987, gave its nod to The Perth Mint for minting platinum coins. By September 1988, the Mint unveiled the nation’s very first Platinum Koala coin. This 35th anniversary edition is a tribute to that groundbreaking release, echoing the original coin’s reverse design.

 

The coin proudly displays the official Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse. This features the Jody Clark effigy, enriched with the dates marking Her Majesty’s reign from 1952 to 2022. Additionally, the coin’s monetary denomination is also inscribed on this side.

 

On the reverse, the coin showcases a koala, reminiscent of its depiction on the inaugural Australian Koala coins from 1988. Accompanying the koala are inscriptions of ‘THE AUSTRALIAN KOALA’, a celebratory ‘P35’ mintmark, and details of the coin’s weight, purity, and the year 2023.
