The 2023 Half-Ounce Gold Libertad

The 2023 1/2 oz Mexican Gold Libertad is half a troy ounce of .999 fine gold, struck by the Casa de Moneda de México in Mexico City. It carries the Winged Victory over the volcanoes on one side and Mexico’s coat of arms on the other, with the weight and the year spelled out in Spanish.

 

Victory Over the Volcanoes

The winged figure stands on top of her column with one arm stretched out and her wings raised. Behind her, two volcanic peaks rise across the horizon, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. Around the rim the coin reads 1/2 ONZA, ORO PURO and 2023 LEY .999, and the Mo mark of the Mexico City mint sits just under the date.

 

The Eagle and the Serpent

On the other side, Mexico’s national arms fill the center: an eagle on a prickly pear cactus, a serpent in its beak, framed below by oak and laurel branches. ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs over the top, and a stepped border runs around the rim inside a reeded edge.
