The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II lovingly designed by Jody Clark. Clark’s rendition really captures her regal nature with great detail from the crown on her head to her dangle earrings. Engraved around her portrait are the initials “D.G. and “REG” which are abbreviations for the Latin phrase “By God’s Grace, Queen.”  To the left of her portrait is “2 Pounds” reminding us that this is legal tender backed by the British Government. 

 

On the reverse side of the coin we see Phillip Nathan’s very popular Britannia design. Nathan’s depiction of Britannia has her wearing a long robe, armed with a trident in her right hand  and holding a shield with the Union flag on it in her left. Also in her left hand is an olive branch. All together this Britannia design represents the strength of Britain with an eye toward peace. 

 

Introduced in the 2021 coin, the 2022 Britannia Silver Coin has four anti-counterfeiting measures integrated into the design.

 

As you look at the reverse side of the coin, you will see a smaller trident than the one Britannia is holding. When you turn the coin a little you will see the trident turn into a padlock. Additionally, the waves in the background are another security feature.

 

When you move the coin, the waves look like they are moving. The design of the flag on Britannia’s shield is another anti-counterfeit measure. The flag has tincture lines that highlight the Union flag. Micro-text around the border of the coin makes for another security feature.

 

Here you will see “Decus et Tutamen” which is Latin for “an ornament and a safeguard” seemingly referring to the fact that the micro-text is a decoration and a security measure.
