Reduced Pricing On Last Coin – As It Has Slight Rim Ding!

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most photographed sites in the world. People travel from all over the world to photograph themselves ‘holding up’ the tower. This world wonder is the subject of this coin. Made from 5 oz of .999 pure silver, the tower is represented in 3D.

Key features:

  • Made of 5 Troy Ounces .999 pure silver
  • High relief with Tower poking out of the coin
  • Flat edged so coin can be stood up
  • Obverse has the image of the Tower of Pisa leaning to the left, Pisa cathedral in the background and an image of Queen Elizabeth II
  • The reverse has the Tower of Pisa leaning to the right with close-up details in the background
  • Very limited mintage of 650 coins worldwide

This coin is uniquely designed to stand up so one can imagine being there. The tower literally pokes out of the coin to the point that you can see the whole tower by looking at both sides. It has a flat side to it so it can be stood up. The antique finish really makes the detail stand out.

Construction on the Tower of Pisa started in 1173. After finishing the third floor, the tower began to lean. This was five years into the project. Construction of the tower was halted. 100 years later they continued construction. Along the way, engineers tried to counterbalance the lean as they added more floors onto it. This only seemed to make the lean worse. They kept building until they were done. Over the years engineers have attempted to right the tower but all they could do is stabilize it from getting worse. In 2008, the tower was deemed safe for the public to get near and it has become even more popular as a tourist destination.

The obverse of the coin has a high relief depiction of the Tower of Pisa leaning to the left. To the left of the Tower is a small image of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the classic Ian Rank-Broadley version of the queen which is why there is an IRB underneath. To the right of the Tower is the Pisa cathedral. At the top of the coin is ‘QUEEN ELIZABETH II’ and ‘COOK ISLANDS’. Below the tower is ‘25 DOLLARS’.

On the reverse side of the coin is the Tower of Pisa leaning to the right. In the background is a close-up detail of the Tower. In the background detail is written ‘650 years’. Written at the top of the coin is ‘LEANING TOWER OF PISA’. At the bottom is ‘1372-2022’.
