The obverse of this coin has the image of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. This image has her facing to the right and wearing a tiara. To the left of her is ‘ELIZABETH II’. Above her head is ‘5 DOLLARS’. To her right is written ‘COOK ISLANDS’. Below her image is ‘2022’.

On the reverse side is a detailed depiction of the Pegasus or Pegasos as it was known to the Greeks. This beautiful horse with wings was born out of a relationship between Poseidon, God of the sea, and Medusa. Athena was angry upon hearing of this relationship and cursed Medusa to be ugly and deadly to even look at. When Medusa was later killed, Pegasus sprang from her neck. Yes, you heard that right. Under the Pegasus image is CI for Citi Invest.

This coin has a hand-poured look as it is irregularly shaped and looks like the coin was stamped like the Greek coins of ancient times. However, the ultra-high relief was created with the more advanced technology of today.
