The obverse side of this coin is Jody Clark’s Queen Elizabeth shown here in her diadem crown and pearl earrings. This is the queen as she appeared at age 89. Behind her is a texture that gives the image a kind of three dimensional look. Scrolling around the coin clockwise is ‘ELIZABETH II D.G.REG.F.D.’ The letters after the queen’s name stand for the Latin phrase, “Dei gratia regina fidei defensatrix” which means “by the grace of God queen, defender of the faith”.
On the reverse is the LIon of England, the same lion that is on the Mote Bridge of Hampton Court. Here the lion is turned in mid-roar and is holding the Coat of Arms of Henry VIII and his wife, Jane Seymour. Running clockwise starting to the right of the lion is ‘LION OF ENGLAND 1 OZ FINE GOLD 999.9 2022’.
Over the next five years, the Royal Tudor Beasts of England Series will have several beasts released. The beasts in the series are: The Seymour Panther, The Lion of England, the Bull of Clarence, the Tudor Dragon, the Greyhound of Richmond, the Royal Dragon, the Yale of Beaufort, the Seymour Unicorn, the Queen’s Panther, and the Queen’s Lion.
