2014 celebrated 25 years of the Austrian Gold Philharmonic coin. To celebrate, the Austrian Mint decided to issue a 1/25 oz version of the coin. This was the first new size in 20 years. The response was overwhelmingly positive. It actually set a record for the mint in coins sold for any size. The decision was made to include this size every year.
The image on the obverse of the coin is the image of the famous pipe organ that sits in the Musikverein Golden Concert Hall. This is used by the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. Above the organ is ‘Republik Osterreich’. Below the picture is ‘1/25 UNZE GOLD 9999 2021’. At the bottom of this side is ‘4 EURO’.
The reverse design is of the instruments of the Philharmonic. Here we see a cello, four violins, a harp, a french horn, bassoon, and harp. Above the instruments is ‘WEINER PHILHARMONIKER’.
