The Perth Mint has been making Australian Kookaburra Series silver coins since 1990. Later they added gold versions and now offer a platinum edition. During this run they have never repeated the same design. This bullion grade coin was minted in 1/10 oz .995 fine platinum.
The obverse side of this coin has the image of Queen Elizabeth II by artist Jody Clark that was commissioned by the Royal Mint of England in 2015. Clark’s design has the queen in right- profile wearing a crown and dangle earrings. Above the queen’s image are the words “Elizabeth II, Australia” with ‘15 dollars’, the face value, underneath.
The reverse side of the coin depicts the Australian Kookaburra bird, a bird that is iconic to the Australian outback. The Kookaburra bird has a distinctive call that sounds like fiendish laughter. The image depicts the bird perched in a gum tree. Arching the bird’s image at the top of the coin is ‘Australian Kookaburra’. Written under the image is ‘2021’, ‘1/10 oz 9995 Platinum’. At the bottom right is the mint’s mark ‘P’.
