The $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is the coin most collectors name when asked to pick the most beautiful piece America ever struck. Minted from 1907 to 1933, each random-year example contains nearly a full ounce of gold and pairs bullion value with the fixed, dwindling supply of pre-1933 U.S. gold, all in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Key Features:
- Contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold in a 90% gold, 10% copper alloy
- Historic U.S. legal tender with a $20 face value, struck 1907–1933
- Obverse: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length Lady Liberty striding at dawn
- Reverse: a bald eagle in flight above the rising sun
President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to remake American coinage, and the obverse shows the result. Liberty strides directly toward the viewer, a lit torch lifted in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, her gown pressed back by the wind. Sun rays climb from the horizon behind her, the Capitol dome sits small at the lower left, and 46 stars border the rim beneath the arc of LIBERTY. The date appears at the lower right, joined on the coin’s edge by lettered E PLURIBUS UNUM rather than the reeding found on modern issues.
The reverse carries a bald eagle mid-flight, wings swept back, crossing above a rising sun whose rays fill the lower field. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TWENTY DOLLARS stack across the top, and IN GOD WE TRUST nestles into the sunrise below, a motto added in 1908 after its initial omission stirred public protest.
Each coin measures 34 mm across and weighs 33.44 grams gross, with dates and mint marks of our choosing based on inventory. BU examples show full original luster with no wear from circulation, a survival state made scarcer by the government gold recall of 1933, which sent millions of Double Eagles to the melting pot.
Few holdings combine near-ounce gold content with genuine American history at so small a premium over melt. Order your Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle from Hero Bullion today and own the coin that redefined U.S. coinage.

I was hoping for another “no motto” but not so lucky. The one I got was in excellent condition with nice luster and very few dings though. I’m hoping spot will drop a little so I can afford another. Where will I get it, Hero of course.

Thanks again for a beautiful coin. I have ordered a couple of these in the past and this one is the best of all. Lots of luster and an added bonus, no motto. Exactly what I wanted. Barely any bag marks on the rim.
