The front shows a young woman in a bonnet and pioneer dress, standing waist-deep in ripening wheat with her face turned upward and her hand extended. A flock of gulls wheels through the sky above and around her, several caught mid-dive toward the crop. Farm buildings and other figures working the field sit in the background. The scene recalls the 1848 “miracle of the gulls,” when flocks of California gulls descended on the Salt Lake Valley settlements and consumed the crickets destroying the pioneers’ first harvest. The line “The Lord will provide” runs in script beneath the figure. The 2 denomination sits inside an ornamental rosette at the upper left, with UTAH, Goldbacks, and Negotiable Instrument across the top. An AURUM serial number runs vertically along the left edge next to the GB seal and the α 2026 series mark. The base panel reads 1/500th Troy Ounce 24K Gold, payable in US gold coin to bearer on demand, with TWO at the bottom.
The back carries the same artwork in reverse impression on an unprinted gold surface, showing the deposited gold layer rather than ink. Under ultraviolet light the note shifts to violet with the border patterns and denomination fluorescing, one of several security features alongside serialization and microprinting.
