The obverse side of the coin is the famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ design of Liberty. Liberty is coming toward the viewer, her right hand holding a torch and an olive branch in her left. To the left, at her feet, is Washington D.C. Around Liberty’s portrait are 50 stars. ‘LIBERTY’ is written above her head and ‘1996’ is at the bottom.
On the reverse side of the coin is Jenny Norris’ eagle design that was introduced last year. This highly detailed version is a close up of the eagle’s head and you can make out the feathers on its face and how they form into bigger feathers around the neck area. The eagle has a piercing determined look on its face. Above the eagle’s head is ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’. Just below this text in a smaller font is the Latin phrase ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ which means “From many, one.” Under this phrase is ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’. At the bottom of the coin is ‘5 DOLLARS’ and ‘1/10 oz FINE GOLD’.
This is your opportunity to not only get a 1996 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle but one that has been graded at MS69 by NGC. This puts this coin at a cut above ones that have not been graded. Don’t miss your chance to get a little gold in your collection with this fine coin.
