The Utah 10 Goldback Aurum Gold Note is one of several denominations of Utah’s Goldbacks. These Goldbacks are foil notes made of 1/100 oz .999 fine gold. They are an unofficial tender in Utah with vendors and merchants all across the state putting up signs with “Goldbacks Welcome Here’. Outside of Utah, these goldbacks make for a more affordable way to buy gold. .

Key features:

  • Made of 1/100 oz (0.01 oz) of .999 fine Gold.
  • Beautiful foil design
  • Obverse or face value shows Prudence blindfolded holding as scale and sword.
  • Reverse or back side is blank
  • Made in the United States
  • Voluntary tender in the state of Utah

The Utah Legal Tender Act was passed in 2011 and established that gold and silver coins could be used as legal tender. Under federal law, states are allowed to make gold and silver coins legal tender. Some are requesting the federal government to rule on whether or not they should only be allowed to make coins as legal tender. The goldbacks were created as a ‘voluntary’ tender where vendors and merchants can accept them as payment but they don’t have to take them. Many establishments advertise that they do take them as payment. Being they have gold in them, they are desirable and have value outside of Utah as a form of buying gold.

The goldbacks are made by layering an amount of gold between two durable layers of polyester.

This makes for a more convenient way to pay for goods than bars of gold or silver or even coins. With these notes, you can pay with 1/1000 oz., 1/200 oz., 1/100 oz., 1/40 oz.,  or 1/20 oz. of gold.  These are authenticated by independent laboratories.

Each goldback denomination has a unique design. This one has Prudence, the embodiment of being prudent or cautious, dressed as Justice. She has a blindfold like the original Justice symbol. This signifies that Justice should be blind to any biases. She has a scale in her hand as a symbol of Justice balancing the facts to make a decision. In her right hand she carries a sword indicating that Justice must be willing to punish the guilty. She is dressed in pioneer era clothes in this portrait.
