Often coins commemorate a special event or someone significant in history. This coin commemorates one of the most popular banknotes in history, the $10 Bison note.”The Bison note is the longest running paper currency in the United States as it ran from 1862 to 1971.” Taking this design, the private mint, ArtBarMint, used 1 oz of .999 fine copper to recreate the design on a copper round. Collectors will appreciate the nod to the past and investors will love that they can add some quality copper to their portfolio.

Key features:

  • Made of 1 troy AVDP ounce .999 fine copper
  • Inspired by the $10 Bison note
  • Obverse side has Bison and portraits of Lewis and Clark
  • Reverse side has Columbia, the historical representation of the US prior to Liberty

The obverse of the coin, like the bill that inspired it, is a celebration of the United States’ frontier spirit. At the center is a wooly bison which was seen all over the plains in the early days of the United States. This particular bison was modeled after Pablo, a buffalo that lived at the Washington Zoo. On the right and left of the bison are portraits of Lewis and Clark explorers whose work led to the Louisiana Purchase. These early explorers came upon bison in their exploration of the Louisiana area. At the top of the coin is “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”. Right above the bison is ‘10 TEN DOLLARS 10’. Below the Bison is a statement explaining that the bill that the coin is based from is legal tender. At the bottom of this side is ‘UNITED STATES NOTE’.

On the reverse side of the coin is Columbia, the figure who once was seen as the personification of the United States before Lady Liberty became the de facto representative. Here she seems to be holding above her head a bundle of wheat perhaps celebrating the agricultural success of the United States. Above him is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”. Below him is “UNITED STATES NOTE”. At the very bottom is the name of the private mint who made this coin “ARTBARMINT”.
