This is the original Utah Goldback design. Goldback ran this artwork from 2019 through 2025, then refreshed the Utah series in 2026. So this is the older look, not the current one. If you want the refreshed art, look for the 2026 1 Utah Goldback. If you came for the original, you are in the right place. The gold inside is the same either way. Only the design changed.

Real Gold You Can Hold

A Goldback is not a coin or a certificate. It is a note with real gold layered right into it. Each 1 Utah Goldback holds 1/1000 of a troy ounce of .999 gold, added with a process called Aurum. The note is thin, tough, and made to be handled. It is one of the simplest ways to own a small, exact amount of gold.

Spend It or Stack It

Goldbacks work as voluntary currency in Utah and a handful of other states, so plenty of folks spend them at businesses that take them. Plenty of buyers just stack them. Both work. It is real gold whether it sits in a stack or changes hands.

1/1000 of a troy ounce of .999 gold. The 1 is the smallest denomination. Bigger notes hold more gold, in step with the number on them.
