Modern commemorative silver dollars sit in a category ordinary bullion never reaches: each issue was authorized by Congress, struck by the U.S. Mint for a limited window, and then retired for good. Every coin holds 0.7734 troy ounces of silver in a 90% fine alloy. Because designs are pulled from available inventory, the piece you receive comes with its own program, its own year, and its own story.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: 90% silver, containing 0.7734 troy oz of silver
  • Metal Type: Silver, struck by the United States Mint
  • Obverse Design: Varies by program; historical figures, athletes, or symbolic scenes
  • Reverse Design: Varies by issue; eagles, national emblems, or program-specific imagery

The range of subject matter is what makes this series interesting. The 1983 Los Angeles Olympic dollar shows a discus thrower modeled on classical Greek sculpture, with XXIII OLYMPIAD arcing overhead. The 1987 Constitution Bicentennial dollar places a quill pen across a rolled parchment inscribed with the opening words of the preamble. A 1992 Olympic issue depicts a baseball pitcher mid-delivery beside the USA legend and five-ring emblem. Reverses vary just as widely, from a stylized bald eagle head with E PLURIBUS UNUM to seals, monuments, and inscriptions tied to the specific program.

Obverse designs generally carry the primary subject in sculpted relief with real depth and motion, while reverses lean on national symbols and denomination inscriptions. Every coin reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR and carries full legal tender status.

Coins measure roughly 38.1 mm across, the same diameter as a Morgan or Peace dollar, with a reeded edge. Issues were struck in both uncirculated and proof finishes. Each arrives sealed in a protective capsule. Design, year, program, and finish cannot be selected, and original Mint boxes or certificates may or may not be included depending on supply.

You get three quarters of an ounce of silver plus a coin with a hard mintage cap behind it. Order yours today and find out which piece of American history lands in your collection.

Order of 50 consisted of about 30+ different designs. Mix of proofs and BU. Some had very minor blemishes, most looked perfect. A great piece of American history. Purchase price was about $2 under spot of what .7734 troy ounces of silver would be. Would order again.

  2. Keith F (verified owner)

I ordered 10 of these and received 2 different designs, 5 of the 1983 Olympics and 5 of the 1984 Olympics. I think these are a fantastic value and a great way to build my silver stack.
