Who Might Turn Up

The coins in our photos give a fair idea of the range: a 1998 American Platinum Eagle with Lady Liberty and the soaring eagle, an Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle and a 2021 Lunar Ox from the Perth Mint, a 2022 Gibraltar coin with the castle and key of the territory’s arms, and a 1989 Isle of Man Cat crown. Each issuer has its own design, effigy, face value and date, and which one you receive depends on what is in inventory when your order ships.

What Off Quality Covers

Our Specifications tab lists the condition as Cull, the trade term for coins with cosmetic problems. Expect some combination of hairline scratches, contact marks, fingerprints, haze, spotting, rim dings or signs of an earlier cleaning. None of it touches the metal, and the platinum weight and purity are what the issuer struck.

Which coin will I receive?

Any one ounce platinum coin we have in stock, from any mint and any year. You cannot pick the mint, design or date.

Does the damage change how much platinum is in it?

No. Scratches, spots and rim dings are surface marks, and the platinum content is unchanged at one troy ounce.

Will a multi-coin order match?

Not necessarily. Mixed coins are normal on this listing, so expect different mints and dates in the same order.

Do these coins have a face value?

Yes, each carries a face value from its issuing country or territory, such as the 100 dollars on the Australian coins in our photo. The face value is far below the platinum’s worth, so the metal is what you are paying for.

What does Cull mean?

Cull is the trade term for coins with cosmetic damage. It describes how the coin looks, not what it is made of.
