Off-quality Silver Eagles are the practical way to buy the most recognized silver coin in the world without paying for perfect surfaces. Every coin contains a full troy ounce of .999 fine silver and remains U.S. legal tender, but each shows cosmetic flaws that keep it out of standard bullion inventory. If you buy silver by the ounce rather than by the photograph, these carry the lowest premium we offer on Eagles.
Key Features:
- Purity and Weight: 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams) of .999 fine silver
- Metal Type: Silver, struck by the United States Mint
- Obverse Design: Walking Liberty by Adolph A. Weinman
- Reverse Design: Heraldic eagle or landing eagle, depending on year
The obverse carries Weinman’s Walking Liberty, first used on the half dollar in 1916. She strides toward a rising sun at the lower left, her gown and the flag draped over her shoulder blown back in the wind, one arm extended and the other cradling oak and laurel branches. LIBERTY arcs across the top rim, IN GOD WE TRUST sits to the right, and the date appears at the base.
The reverse depends on the year you receive. Coins dated 1986 through mid-2021 show John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle behind a shield, clutching an olive branch and arrows with thirteen stars above. Coins from mid-2021 onward carry Emily Damstra’s eagle coming in to land with an oak sprig in its talons.
Each coin measures 40.6 mm across and 2.98 mm thick, with a reeded edge and a $1 face value. Expect visible problems: dark spotting, milk spots, environmental toning, scratches, rim dings, or evidence of cleaning. Some coins show heavy blotching across the fields, others only light haze. Years are dealer’s choice and cannot be requested, and coins ship loose rather than in tubes or capsules.
None of this affects the silver weight or purity, which the U.S. government guarantees on every Eagle regardless of condition. For stackers focused on ounces at the lowest cost, this is the most efficient entry into the series. Order today and we will ship insured in discreet packaging.

Was very pleased with these coins, some are very difficult to even find the reason for the “cull.” Great pieces for the price point!

First order of 4 had 2 with slight toning. Second order of 20 a few had some scuffs. Varying dates 1995 to 2023. Other than that they looked like they were fresh from a tube.

Great way to get eagles at a lower premium, though Hero has great prices anyway. Mine seem to have been in contact with chemicals causing specific BRIGHT and BOLD color changes, blue, red, black, yellow. Not typical tarnish. One was thickly coated in lacquer. Wide range of dates. Wear was minor to none. Kinda cool!

Got a roll of 20. None were horrible, a few had pretty cool toning, and several looked BU. Very happy with the purchase.

as a new stacker, I found these eagles to be in great condition. Did have a few scuffs, and milk spots, but still a high quality eagle for the price. I will be buying again.

I got a tube of 20. All were 2013. Seemed a tiny on the dull side but that was to be expected. Other than that they were excellent condition. Awesome score in my opinion!!! Hero is quickly becoming one of my favorite bullion dealers!

I bought a tube, just to see if they were any good. They were GREAT! Very subtle blemishes or small scratches, unlike the photo they show of them. There was a great selection of years in the 1990’s up to 2016 and one was about 1985, and no noticeable oxidation.

I am just after the silver content. This is a great way to stack eagles and save money from ultra high premiums
