This version of Lady Liberty on the obverse of this coin is a neoclassical rendition. She was inspired by the Greco-Roman artists and is shown in profile with thick curls. She is wearing a thick crown. Framing her face are thirteen stars symbolizing the thirteen colonies. At the bottom of the coin is the year the coin was issued. The year of coin you get is dependent on the stock on hand.
The reverse side of the coin has two laurel sprigs framing ‘1 DOLLAR’. Under this is the date of the coin’s issue. In this case the date is between 1849-1854 and is dependent on stock on hand. Around this image is ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’. This is the Type 1 design with the closed wreath that was used on most of the coins during this period. The Type 2 design has smaller laurel sprigs and is referred to as the open wreath design.
