Goldbacks solve gold’s oldest practical problem: buying and spending amounts small enough to actually use. The 1/2 Utah Goldback contains 1/2000th of a troy ounce of .999 fine 24K gold sealed between polymer layers, making it one of the smallest gold holdings available in any format. The Alpha marking identifies this as part of the 2026 refresh of the Utah series, the first Goldback series ever issued.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: 1/2000th troy ounce of .999 fine 24K gold
  • Metal Type: Gold, vacuum-deposited between polymer layers
  • Obverse Design: A pioneer woman with a handcart, birds overhead and a trail company behind her
  • Reverse Design: Mirrored impression of the front artwork across a plain gold field

The front centers on a young pioneer woman in a bonnet and long working dress, both hands on the rail of a loaded handcart as she looks up and to the right. Two birds cut across the sky above her, and a line of fellow travelers with their own carts recedes into the hills behind. The scene draws on the Mormon handcart companies who crossed the plains to the Salt Lake Valley in the 1850s, pulling their belongings by hand rather than by wagon team. The scripture line “They shall walk and not faint” runs in script beneath the figure. The 1/2 denomination sits inside an ornamental rosette at the upper left, with UTAH, Goldback, and Negotiable Instrument stacked across the top. A vertical AURUM serial number runs along the left edge beside the GB seal and the α 2026 series mark. The base panel reads 1/2000th Troy Ounce 24K Gold, payable in US gold coin to bearer on demand, with ONE HALF at the very bottom.

The back carries the same artwork in reverse impression across an unprinted gold surface, showing the deposited gold layer itself rather than ink. Every note in the refresh series also carries UV-reactive security elements along with a unique serial number and microprinting.

Each note ships in a protective currency sleeve and is flexible enough to carry without creasing damage.

Real 24K gold in a spendable, giftable denomination makes this an easy entry point. Add the 1/2 Utah Goldback Refresh – Alpha to your cart today.
