The US Mint produced fractional Platinum Eagles for bullion only from 1997 through 2008, and no half-ounce bullion issues have been struck since. The obverse presents a close portrait of the Statue of Liberty, cropped at the shoulders and facing the viewer directly. Her spiked crown is rendered in high relief with each ray individually defined, and the folds of her robe fall across the lower left of the field. LIBERTY arcs across the top in tall letters, the date sits in the right field with IN GOD WE TRUST beneath it, and radiating lines fan out behind the crown to the rim. John Mercanti designed this obverse, which appeared on every Platinum Eagle from the series debut.

The reverse shows a bald eagle in flight, wings fully extended with individual flight feathers cut across both spans, gliding above a sunburst rising from the lower left. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA runs in two lines across the top, with .9995 PLATINUM 1/2 OZ. stacked in the right field and the $50 face value at the base. Thomas D. Rogers Sr. designed the soaring eagle reverse used on bullion issues.

The coin measures 27 mm across, carries a $50 face value as legal tender, and is IRA eligible at .9995 purity. Dates ship at random from available inventory, and coins may show light handling marks consistent with storage.
