Weinman’s Liberty, Shrunk to a Medallion
Weinman designed the Walking Liberty for the US half dollar, struck from 1916 to 1947. Since 1986, a modified version of his Liberty has appeared on the American Silver Eagle. On this bar, she sits in a round medallion and walks toward the sun rising on the horizon, the flag over her shoulders, with LIBERTY around the rim and IN GOD WE TRUST at her side. Below the medallion, Ten Troy Ounces, FINE SILVER and 999+ are stamped over a large numeral 10, with Made in U.S.A. in a recessed panel at the base.
The Diamond-Grid Back
The reverse carries no lettering at all. A raised diamond grid runs diagonally across the whole face of the bar, corner to corner, with the rounded corners of the bar framing it. It makes the bar easy to tell apart from plain-backed 10 oz bars at a glance.
