The Valcambi 2.5 gram Gold Bar holds 2.5 grams of .9999 fine gold, minted in Switzerland by Valcambi and sealed in its orange assay card. That is about a twelfth of a troy ounce, a way to buy Swiss refined gold without paying for a full ounce at once. It ships new, with a serial numbered certificate.

What Is Struck on the Bar

The bar is cut from rolled gold sheet and struck, which leaves it flat, bright and sharply lettered at only 11.50 by 19.00 mm. Valcambi’s faceted diamond logo fills the upper half of the front, with 2,5 g, fine gold and 999,9 below it and the CHI ESSAYEUR FONDEUR assayer mark at the base. The back reads valcambi suisse in lowercase type. Struck, not poured, so every bar has the same clean face.

Sealed in the Orange Card

The bar is sealed in a clear blister set into Valcambi’s orange card. The front of the card is plain apart from the valcambi suisse name. The back is the assay certificate, with a serial number printed along the top and the fineness, Au 999,9, and weight, 2,5 g, below. The certificate is numbered, so the card and its bar stay tied together.

The Premium on a Small Bar

A 2.5 gram bar costs noticeably more per ounce than a 1 oz bar. Valcambi does nearly the same work minting, numbering and sealing it as a much larger bar, and that cost sits on very little gold. The smaller the bar, the higher the premium per ounce, and a 2.5 gram bar sits near the small end.

Why does the bar come sealed?

The sealed card keeps the bar from being scratched or handled and keeps it with its numbered certificate. A sealed bar is also the simplest thing for a dealer to accept when you sell. Sealed bars resell easily, so leave it in the card.
