The Asgard “Sol” Rune Penningar 2 oz Silver Piece captures the spirit of ancient Norse-inspired bullion with a rugged, hand-crafted appearance. Struck in .999 fine silver and shaped with a naturally irregular form, this piece reflects the aesthetic of early Viking-age silver currency. Its raw texture and distinctive rune markings make it both a conversation piece and a unique addition to any precious metals collection.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver

  • Metal Type: Silver

  • Obverse Design: Asgard mint emblem featuring a raven within a circular stamp and surrounding runic-style lettering

  • Reverse Design: Hand-struck hammer impressions forming rune-style markings on a textured silver surface

The obverse features a central mint mark associated with Asgard silver pieces. At the heart of the design is a raven, a creature deeply connected to Norse mythology and commonly linked to Odin, the chief deity of the Norse pantheon. The bird appears within a circular emblem surrounded by stylized lettering and symbols reminiscent of ancient runic scripts. The stamp-like design gives the piece the appearance of a historically struck silver unit rather than a modern machine-minted round.

The reverse highlights the raw craftsmanship that defines rune-style penningar silver. Instead of a traditional engraved design, the surface displays a series of hand-applied impressions pressed into the metal. These marks create the look of ancient rune symbols, referencing the alphabets used by early Scandinavian cultures. The uneven surface texture and hammered finish reinforce the concept of primitive silver currency that might have circulated in early trading systems throughout Northern Europe.

Historically, Viking-era commerce often relied on weighed pieces of silver rather than standardized coins. Silver could be cut, weighed, and traded based on its metal content. This style of bullion reflects that tradition, paying tribute to the early monetary practices of Norse societies.

This piece contains 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, offering a substantial amount of precious metal while maintaining a distinctive artistic presentation. The silver is produced with a hand-poured and hammered style finish, resulting in an irregular shape and unique surface textures.

Because of this production method, no two pieces are exactly identical, making each example slightly different in appearance. The natural variations in shape, strike marks, and texture contribute to its authenticity-inspired design.

The rugged finish and rune impressions make this silver piece stand apart from conventional bullion rounds or bars. It blends historical inspiration with modern silver purity, appealing to collectors interested in Viking culture, mythology, or primitive-style bullion.

Pieces are typically delivered in protective packaging to help maintain the condition of the silver and preserve the surface details.

The Asgard “Sol” Rune Penningar 2 oz Silver Piece offers a distinctive tribute to the early traditions of silver trade and Norse symbolism. With its raw hammered texture, runic-style markings, and full two ounces of .999 fine silver, it stands out as both a collectible artifact-inspired piece and a valuable bullion holding. Add this Viking-inspired silver piece to your collection and experience a design rooted in ancient tradition.

Cool piece but both that I purchased were pretty worn on front and back. I’d assumed from being stacked while being shipped from the mint, because they were shipped nicely to where I know it didn’t happen during the shipment to me. I like my pieces to look almost flawless, hence the low rating.
