Registration plates were first introduced in France in 1893. Plates made their way to the United States of America just eight years later. New York required its citizens to display plates, but these largely just included the initials of the owner of the car. It wasn’t until 1903 that Massachusetts became the first state to issue plates. The Stackin’ Across America Series is taking the uniqueness of state plates, and with UV printing technology is producing full-color plates on silver. Unlike most states, the registration plate in New Jersey has gone relatively unchanged throughout its history. The design from 1959-1977 featured a non-reflective plate with a tan background. In 1979 this was updated to include a bright blue background with yellow lettering. In 1992, the plate was changed to the design featured on the obverse of this bar. It has remained virtually unchanged since.
The obverse of the Stacking Across America New Jersey License Plate Silver Bar features the plate design of New Jersey. This design has been used as the base plate in New Jersey since 1992. It has largely remained the same since. It features a yellow-to-gradient white background with identifying marks in black.
Am American flag rippling in the wind is on the reverse field of all 1 oz New Jersey License Plate Silver Bars. This image, which is present on all silver bars in the series, features the American flag with the series name.
