In 1878 there was much rejoicing at the release of the 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar. After a five-year hiatus following the 1873 Silver Coin Act, the US Mint was once again offering Silver Dollars again. This design replaced the design used prior through 1873.  In 1878 the Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced. Year of the coin you receive ranges from 1878-1904 and 1921 depending on stock on hand. This coin is in cull condition.

  • Face value of $1 (USD) backed by United States Government

Collectors and investors love the Morgan Silver Dollar because it is the perfect nexus of quality silver and a beautiful design. These factors make them highly collectible and desirable to investors both. Another factor that helps in this value proposition is that these coins are made by the US Mint. Collectors trust the US Mint to deliver the highest quality metal content available. These coins have a silver content of .90 fine silver which was good for the time period and was welcomed after a period when people couldn’t get any silver bullion coins from the US Mint.

On the obverse side of this coin is Lady Liberty as designed by George T. Morgan. She is wearing a coronet and has a wreath on her head. Above her head is written ‘E. Pluribus Unum’. Below her portrait are 13 stars and the date of issue.

The reverse side of the coin has the heraldic eagle with wings spread out. Morgan’s version of the heraldic eagle doesn’t have a shield with it. Above the eagle is ‘UNITED STATES of AMERICA.’ Just below these words is ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’, Below the image is ‘ONE DOLLAR’.
