The obverse presents George T. Morgan’s Liberty facing left, her hair rolled above her neck beneath a cap banded with LIBERTY, cotton blossoms and wheat woven into the crown. E PLURIBUS UNUM arcs overhead, thirteen stars ring the lower rim, and the date sits at the base. The reverse spreads a bald eagle’s wings wide as it clutches three arrows and an olive branch, a laurel wreath curving beneath it. IN GOD WE TRUST appears in Gothic script above the eagle’s head, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR around the rim and the mintmark, when present, above the wreath’s bow. Morgans of this span were struck in Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Carson City, largely from silver pulled out of Nevada’s Comstock Lode.
