The Mexican 10 Peso is one of the most practical ways to buy gold at a fraction of a full ounce. Struck by La Casa de Moneda de México — the oldest operating mint in the Western Hemisphere — these coins were originally produced between 1905 and 1920, with additional strikes issued later. Each one contains a confirmed .2411 troy oz of pure gold in a coin small enough to fit comfortably in a coin flip, making the denomination a long-standing favorite among both investors and world coin collectors.

Key Features:

  • Gold content: .2411 troy oz of pure gold
  • Composition: 90% gold, 10% copper (8.33 grams total weight)
  • Obverse: Left-facing portrait of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla; inscribed Diez Pesos, year of issue, and mint mark M
  • Reverse: Mexican national coat of arms — eagle on cactus devouring a serpent — encircled by Estados Unidos Mexicanos

The obverse carries a strong left-facing bust of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the Catholic priest who launched Mexico’s War of Independence in 1810 and is widely regarded as the father of the Mexican nation. His portrait fills the field with a clean, classical authority — hair swept back, features sharply defined. The denomination Diez Pesos, the year, and the M mint mark of the Mexico City Mint are positioned around the rim.

The reverse displays the Mexican national coat of arms in a version consistent with the early 20th-century design: a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, wings spread, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons. The image sits within a wreath of laurel and oak, with Estados Unidos Mexicanos arcing around the upper rim. The composition is bold and well-struck, with fine feather and foliage detail across the eagle and wreath.

The 90% gold alloy gives these coins a warm, deep yellow tone and good resistance to wear. Coins in this listing are from secondary-market inventory; expect circulation marks and light handling consistent with their age. The 22.5mm diameter and reeded edge are standard across the series.
