Since the 2nd Amendment was ratified in 1791, there have been calls to curtail it, change it or even overturn it. This is one of the fundamental rights that was spelled out in the constitution. Time and time again the courts have been called on to defend it. One example is in 2008 in the case of District of Columbia v Heller, the Supreme Court ruled that individuals in the home have the right to defend themselves.
