Time and time again the courts have been called on to defend it. One example is in 2008 in the case of District of Columbia v Heller, the Supreme Court ruled that individuals in the home have the right to defend themselves. Another example is in 2010 in the case of McDonald v City of Chicago when the Supreme Court ruled that local and state governments are no different than the Federal government when it comes to infringing on the 2nd amendment.
