The Germania Mint 5 oz Silver Bar is made from LBMA Certified .9999 fine silver. 

 

Every bar is shipped vacuum-sealed in specially designed boxes. There is a unique identification code on the front and a hologram on the back. This code and the hologram act to guarantee the authenticity of the bar. 

 

When the number in the hologram is combined with the number on the front of the bar, they make a code number that can be verified in a database kept by the Germania Mint.

Counterfeiting does exist in the world of precious metals. The Germania Mint is serious about anti-counterfeiting and puts counter measures in their coins and bullion bars. With their silver bars it starts with LBMA Certified .9999 fine silver. They then put a unique identification number on each bar. On the back of the bar is a hologram with a number on it. If you contact the mint, they can verify the authenticity of the bar by giving them the number in the hologram and the identification number on the front. The mint can then compare these numbers with what they have in their database. This makes for a kind of two-factor authentication.

    My main concern with buying silver or gold is the possibility of purchasing counterfeit bullion. To help protect myself I usually try to stick with silver that is of higher tier and has security features like serial numbers and security holograms.

    I also try to deal with reputable bullion dealers. I never buy on craigslist or ebay.

    This Germainia mint bar fits the bill in higher tier and security features that the lay person can see to authenticate authenticity.
