The reverse side of the coin is a portrait of Marianne. Marianne is the symbol of the French people like Lady Liberty is the symbol of the American people. This portrait was designed by artist J.C. Chaplain. Marianne represents Liberty and reason. Here she is facing right and wearing a wreath of leaves. Around her image is ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE’.
On the reverse side is the Gallic Rooster, another Symbol of France perhaps like Uncle Sam in the United States. The rooster symbolizes the country’s culture and rich history.
