The Four Horsemen series takes on one of the most enduring narratives in Western religious tradition, rendering each rider as a large-format collectible with a level of artistic depth rarely seen in copper medals. The Famine edition, the third of the four riders, is struck in 5 troy oz of .999 fine copper and finished with a 24k gold gilding across its ornate octagonal border, giving the piece a dramatic contrast between the darkened central scene and the warm gold frame surrounding it.

Key Features:

  • Metal: .999 fine copper with 24k gold gilding
  • Weight: 5 troy oz
  • Shape: Octagonal
  • Series: Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
  • Obverse design: A robed rider on horseback holding scales, surrounded by emaciated figures against a stormy sky, inscribed “FAMINE”
  • Reverse design: “FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE” and “FIVE OUNCES TROY,” “24K GILDED,” “999 CU,” featuring a central tower logo within an ornate scrollwork field

The obverse presents a deeply detailed scene of the rider known as Famine, depicted as a cloaked, hooded figure astride a dark horse, holding a pair of scales raised in one hand — the traditional symbol of this rider drawn from the Book of Revelation. Surrounding the horse on all sides are gaunt, skeletal figures, their bodies emaciated and their arms reaching outward in desperation. The ground at the lower edge is cracked and parched, and the sky above churns with dark, heavy storm clouds. The scene is rendered with striking tonal depth, using darkened copper tones throughout the central field. The 24k gold-gilded octagonal border surrounding the scene is filled with scrolling floral and vine motifs, with small flower accents at each corner point, creating a strong visual contrast against the somber interior. FAMINE is inscribed in a raised banner along the bottom of the border.

The reverse continues the octagonal format with the same elaborate gold-gilded scrollwork border, equally detailed across all eight sides. The central field carries a circular producer logo featuring a stylized tower — identifiable as a CN Tower rendering — set within bold lettering. Concentric inscribed rings state FOUR HORSEMEN, FIVE OUNCES TROY, 24K GILDED, and 999 CU, with the words “of the APOCALYPSE” completing the series title along the sides of the octagon.

At 5 troy oz with a gilded finish and octagonal shape, this medal stands apart from standard round or bar formats. Add the Famine edition to your Four Horsemen collection today.
