Few names carry as much weight in the American precious metals market as Engelhard. Struck during the company’s operational years, the American Prospector is among the most recognized and actively traded privately minted silver rounds ever produced in the United States. Stackers buy it for the metal, collectors buy it for the name, and both benefit from a supply that can no longer grow.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: One troy ounce of 999+ fine silver
  • Metal: Silver, refined and struck by Engelhard
  • Obverse: A kneeling prospector panning a stream, inscribed U.S.A. and THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR, beaded border
  • Reverse: A bald eagle descending with wings fanned, ENGELHARD above and ONE TROY OUNCE 999+ FINE SILVER around the lower field

The obverse tells a complete story in one scene. A bearded prospector crouches low in a shallow creek, broad-brimmed hat pulled down, sleeves rolled to the elbow, both hands tipping his pan into the current. Ripples spread around his boots and a small shrub grows from the open bank behind him, the spare frontier landscape reinforcing the gold-rush theme. U.S.A. sits in the upper left field and THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR curves along the bottom in bold serif capitals. The relief runs deep enough that the folds in his trousers and the creases in his hat crown resolve cleanly.

The reverse centers on a bald eagle caught mid-descent, wings fanned wide with individual primaries and tail feathers struck as separate raised lines. Its head turns sharply and its beak opens as the talons reach for a leafy branch below, a draped standard angling across the field behind the bird. The engraving carries enough depth to give the eagle real dimension against the flat surrounding field. ENGELHARD arcs across the top inside the beaded rim, with the weight and purity declaration wrapping the lower circumference.

Rounds are sold as random year, so the date will vary. Each arrives in condition consistent with secondary market pieces of this era, and light toning or contact marks are normal. No certificate or assay card is included, which is standard for this product.

Engelhard stopped striking these decades ago, and no new supply will ever reach the market. That fixed ceiling matters for anyone building a long-term silver position. Order yours today.

These legendary ENGLEHARD Prospectors are probably one of my FAVORITE Rounds I now own, and to be able to grab 5 of these at close to spot is why I keep shopping HERO BULLION! Bought 2 the other day and had to come back for 3 more. KEEP STACKING Everybody!

The 1oz Silver Engelhard round is one of my favorite rounds and Hero Bullion is my favorite online Bullion dealer. I have made multiple purchases from Hero Bullion and had zero problems. Their shipping charges are the cheapest I’ve found among online dealers at $149 and they ship really fast. I have found somethings a little cheaper on other sites but after purchasing from them their shipping was extremely slow because of one excuse or another but Hero Bullion is always fast. I am a repeat 100% satisfied customer to Hero Bullion.

1982 round received. Came in beautiful, very small scuffs but come on, it’s from 1982 it has some years behind its belt!

Relatively new to stacking and every but often I’d here bout “Engelhard” brand silver bars, and there always seemed to be extra
excitement surrounding any bullion with the Engelhard name attached, however I had no idea what was such a big deal with this brand, so naturally I did a lil’ reading…and wow, such fascinating American history behind the Engelhard name, and Engelhard (Jr. I think)was the real-life inspiration for the fictional 007 Goldfinger character….So cool…Soooo…now I get it, and of course with Hero having some of this vintage silver at a very reasonable prices, naturally i had to snag a few rounds and one nice n’ husky 10oz Engelhard Ag Bar…as a rule of thumb i only stack government issued bullion (mostly American & Canadian) but after learning about the American legend whose name once was synonymous with world renowned, exceptional quality bullion products..im very happy to make an exception to my rule and to own a few pieces of really cool history without breaking the bank..
