James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel design has been reproduced in silver by dozens of mints, but the reverse proof treatment sets this one apart. Each round holds 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver, struck by Asahi Refining with mirrored devices standing against satin fields. It buys at a low premium and looks like a coin that cost considerably more.

Key Features

  • Purity and Weight: 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver
  • Metal Type: Silver
  • Obverse Design: Native American profile with LIBERTY and the Asahi hallmark
  • Reverse Design: American bison standing in profile with weight and purity inscriptions

The obverse shows a Native American man facing right, hair drawn back into a knotted braid with two feathers set behind the ear. The relief is polished to a bright mirror while the surrounding field carries a fine brushed texture, so the portrait reads with strong contrast under any light. LIBERTY runs vertically down the left edge, and the angular Asahi mark sits below the truncation.

The reverse gives the bison the same treatment. The animal stands in left profile on a raised mound of ground, head lowered slightly, with the heavy shoulder hump and shaggy foreleg hair worked in visible detail against the mirrored body. ONE TROY OUNCE arcs across the top and .999 SILVER along the bottom. Both faces are ringed by a beaded border with a reeded edge.

Rounds ship new in mint condition. Multiples of twenty typically arrive in sealed mint tubes. Mirrored surfaces show fingerprints readily, so handle by the edges and use a capsule for anything you plan to keep long term.

Asahi Refining holds LBMA Good Delivery accreditation and runs facilities in the United States, so the hallmark clears with dealers on sight. This round pairs that credibility with one of the most recognized designs in American coinage and a finish that most bullion rounds don’t offer.
