Junk silver is the most practical form of divisible bullion in the American market, and Walking Liberty halves are the best-looking version of it. A $500 face value bag contains 1,000 half dollars struck in 90% silver, holding roughly 357.5 troy ounces of actual silver weight. Every coin is legal tender US currency with a recognized silver content, which makes it easy to trade in any amount from a single half dollar upward.

Key Features:

  • Silver Content: Approximately 357.5 troy ounces ASW per $500 face value
  • Composition: 90% silver, 10% copper
  • Quantity: 1,000 half dollars at $0.50 face value each
  • Dates: 1916 to 1947, mixed and selected from inventory
  • Obverse: Liberty striding toward a rising sun with flag and olive branches
  • Reverse: A bald eagle perched on a mountain crag beside a pine sapling

The obverse carries Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty, the design later revived for the American Silver Eagle. Liberty strides forward with her robe streaming behind her, the Stars and Stripes draped across her shoulder, olive branches gathered in her left arm and her right hand extended toward a rising sun at the lower left. LIBERTY arcs across the top, IN GOD WE TRUST sits in the right field, and the date anchors the base.

The reverse presents a bald eagle perched on a rocky crag, wings partially raised and head turned left, with a pine sapling growing from the rock beside it. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper rim, E PLURIBUS UNUM sits in the left field, and HALF DOLLAR runs along the base.

Coins are circulated, with wear ranging from moderate to heavy depending on the individual piece. Expect worn high points, contact marks, and toning. Silver content is calculated on standard circulated weight, which accounts for metal lost in commerce. Bags ship in a canvas coin bag, and specific dates and mintmarks cannot be requested.
