Two Ounces of 2027 Gold
This is a two troy ounce gold coin, .9999 fine, struck by the Perth Mint for 2027 as the Year of the Goat piece in Lunar Series III. Two ounces is 62.2 grams of gold in a coin 40.9 mm across, wider than an old silver dollar. Australia lists it as legal tender at 200 dollars.
A Bigger Canvas for the Goat
The reverse is Wade Robinson’s single-goat design shown at a larger scale: one long-bearded billy goat with a sweeping horn on stony ground, a windswept tree on a cliff to the right, the goat character above GOAT and 2027, and the P mintmark with WR initials at lower left. At 40.9 mm the detail in the coat and rock reads more clearly than on the fractional sizes. The silver 2027 Goats use a separate three-goat reverse by Natasha Muhl. Dan Thorne’s King Charles III effigy sits on the obverse, lettered CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 2 oz 9999 Au and 200 DOLLARS.
Uncapped, and Bought Whole
Two honest points. Unlike the 1 oz gold Goat, which stops at 30,000, the 2 oz has no mintage cap and is struck to demand. And it is a single large purchase: you buy and sell the whole two ounces at once, not by the ounce, and a 2 oz coin moves through a narrower resale market than a 1 oz. As a dated lunar coin it also runs a premium over a plain gold ounce, which may not fully hold when you sell.
A 40 mm Coin With a Security Mark
The 2 oz is one of the three gold Goats, with the 1 oz and 10 oz, that carries the Perth Mint’s micro-engraved letter, a mark set into the reverse that shows only under magnification and helps confirm the coin. Handle it by the rim, keep it in its capsule, and give it room to store: at 40.9 mm and over 62 grams it needs a larger holder than a 1 oz coin.

Is the 2 oz capped like the 1 oz?
No. The 1 oz is the only gold Goat with a mintage limit, at 30,000. The 2 oz is struck to demand, and the Perth Mint reports its total once production ends.
What is the premium per ounce on a 2 oz?
Lower per ounce than the 1 oz, because the mint’s fixed striking cost spreads over twice the gold. The tradeoff is that you commit to two ounces in one coin and sell it as one unit.
Is this one of the gold Goats with the security letter?
Yes. The 1 oz, 2 oz and 10 oz gold Goats carry the micro-engraved letter within the reverse design. The fractional gold sizes do not.
Is the design the same as the smaller gold Goats?
Yes. Every gold Goat, from the 1/20 oz to the 10 oz, uses the same single-goat reverse by Wade Robinson and the same Dan Thorne obverse. Only the size, weight and face value change.
Does a 2 oz gold coin work in an IRA?
Yes on the metal: its .9999 fineness and sovereign-mint origin meet the standard for a precious metals IRA. Confirm your custodian is comfortable holding 2 oz coins rather than 1 oz units.
