First introduced in 2006, the American Gold Buffalo marked a significant milestone as the first 24-karat gold coin struck by the United States Mint for public investment. Drawing from the iconic imagery of the early 20th century, this series offers both a nod to American heritage and a trusted vehicle for preserving wealth. The 2025 $50 American Gold Buffalo, certified MS70 Early Release by NGC with the Blue Label designation, represents the highest level of condition for collectors and investors alike. Containing one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, this coin combines historical design with unmatched purity, backed by the enduring credibility of the U.S. Mint.

Key Features

  • 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold

  • Obverse features James Earle Fraser’s classic Native American portrait

  • Reverse showcases an American bison, also designed by James Earle Fraser

  • Struck by the United States Mint

  • NGC-certified MS70 Early Release with Blue Label

  • Legal tender $50 face value

  • First-ever 24k gold coin issued by the U.S. Mint for investment

The obverse side of the coin features the distinguished profile of a Native American chief, a composite of real-life individuals that pays tribute to Indigenous cultures. Designed by James Earle Fraser, this image originally appeared on the Buffalo Nickel in 1913 and remains one of the most recognized designs in American numismatics. The obverse also includes the word “LIBERTY,” the year of issue “2025,” and the “F” initial of the designer, all of which are subtly integrated into the engraving without overpowering the portrait.

On the reverse, the design continues Fraser’s homage to American heritage with a depiction of a massive American bison standing on a grassy mound. Inspired by Black Diamond, a bison once housed at the Central Park Zoo, this image conveys strength and national identity. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s specifications—“$50,” “1 OZ.,” and “.9999 FINE GOLD.” The layout is clean, with strong line work and a balanced distribution of text and imagery.

Combining timeless design with modern quality standards, the 2025 $50 American Gold Buffalo in NGC MS70 Early Release condition offers a compelling choice for anyone looking to diversify their holdings with physical gold. With its high-purity composition, iconic artwork, and third-party authentication, this coin is an appealing addition to any portfolio or collection.
