The Perth Mint’s Kookaburra series launched in 1990 and has run annually ever since, making 2025 its 35th anniversary year — a milestone the coin acknowledges directly in its design. Platinum issues in the Kookaburra program are considerably rarer than their silver counterparts, produced in limited quantities and drawing collectors who want the series’ distinctive bird imagery rendered in one of the earth’s scarcest metals. The 1/10 oz denomination brings the anniversary issue within reach at a fractional price point without diminishing any of the design’s detail.

The reverse is the design centerpiece. A single kookaburra sits on a slender branch, depicted in three-quarter forward view with its head tilted upward — the posture of the bird mid-call, characteristic of the laughing kookaburra’s territorial display. Individual feather layers across the wings, breast, and tail are cleanly differentiated, giving the figure strong relief against the coin’s platinum field. Radiating lines extend outward behind the bird in all directions, evoking sunburst rays, and a smooth circular disc at the lower center represents the rising sun — a recurring compositional element in the series. “KOOKABURRA” arcs across the top in large lettering, with “35TH ANNIVERSARY” curved beneath it to the right. The year 2025, weight, and purity appear on the left arc, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark sits at the lower left of the field. The combination of the frosted bird against the coin’s cool platinum field gives the design a subdued, precise quality well suited to the metal.
The obverse carries the left-facing effigy of King Charles III — the portrait used across current Perth Mint sovereign issues — with “CHARLES III” and “AUSTRALIA” arcing above and “15 DOLLARS” inscribed below. The portrait is rendered with fine hair and facial detail against a smooth field.
The 35th anniversary designation makes the 2025 issue a natural collecting landmark within the broader Kookaburra program. Each coin arrives Brilliant Uncirculated in an individual protective capsule, preserving the platinum surfaces from handling.
Platinum’s industrial scarcity and the Kookaburra series’ strong annual collector following combine to make this a compelling fractional platinum piece. Add it to your cart today.
