Sköll in the Norse Myth
In the Prose Edda, Sköll is the wolf that chases the Sun across the sky, while his brother Hati chases the Moon. Both are sons of Fenrir. The chase goes on every day until Ragnarök, when the wolves catch their prey and the light goes out. Germania Mint puts it plainly: the capture of the Sun will be the beginning of the end.
The Hunt in Black Silver
Kinga Sabatowicz shows Sköll mid-leap, jaws open and fur streaming, lunging across a starry sky toward a radiant sun symbol at the left. SKÖLL is struck in the top left, and the designer’s KS initials sit near the rim. The black finish darkens the fields and lets the wolf stand out, its coat raised in deep texture against the stars.
The Sun and the Eagle
The other side carries the Sun symbol again, a rayed star around a quartered disc, framed by a band of knotwork. Germania Mint’s two-headed eagle, its coat of arms, sits at the right. Around it the round reads GERMANIA 2024, 1 oz Ag 999.9 and 5 MARK, Germania Mint’s own denomination for the piece. This is a privately minted round from Jelenia Góra, Poland.
