One of the most iconic coins in Europe returns again with the 2022 1 oz Austrian Platinum Philharmonic. The platinum version of the Philharmonic coin was introduced in 2016 and grew in popularity as the demand in precious metals grew. This coin is sure to be a favorite among collectors as well.

Key features:

  • Only the 7th year of popularity for the platinum edition
  • Made of 1 Troy ounce of .9995
  • Face value of 100 Euros backed by Austria
  • On the obverse side of the coin is the organ used inside the Musikverein concert hall
  • The reverse side of the coin has a selection of instruments used in the orchestra

Since 1989 the Austrian Philharmonic coins have had the same design and the design is the same across versions of the coin. This constancy is perhaps one of the things that make this coin a favorite with collectors. They can count on a coin that is consistent not only in look but also in quality.

The demand for platinum coins may be on the rise or at least the demand for THIS coin anyway. When it was introduced in platinum for the first time in 2016 it sold 35, 257 coins. The next three years slumped to between 13,000 and 17,000. In 2020, perhaps due to what was going on in the world or maybe people just remembered this coin came in platinum as well, it set a mintage record with 40, 891. One thing is certain is that his coin looks gorgeous in platinum.

The obverse side of this coin features the Musikverein’s famous grand pipe organ. This pipe organ is a central piece of the Golden Concert Hall and has become an icon of the Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra. At the top of the coin is ‘REPUBLIK OSTERREIC’. Below the organ is ‘1 UNZE PLATIN 999.5’. The date is under this and at the bottom of the coin is ‘100 EURO’.

Many of the instruments used in the orchestra are shown on the reverse of the coin. Instruments include the cello, two violins, a french horn, bassoon and harp. Above the instruments is ‘WEINER PHILHARMONIKER’. Under this text in smaller size text is ‘PLATIN’.

There is a reason many collectors make these Austrian Philharmonic coins a staple in their collections. More and more collectors are making  this 1oz platinum version a yearly addition to their sets as well. Get yours today.
