The Perth Mint’s own Monique Reeves designed the reverse of this coin with a beautiful tiger design featuring a tiger on a rocky ledge turned to face his tail. His mouth is open and you can see his mouthful of sharp teeth. To the left of his head is the Chinese symbol for tiger and ‘TIGER 2022’. Further left is the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark. In the rocky ledge one can make out the artist’s initials, ‘MR’.

On the obverse side is Queen Elizabeth II, Jody Clark’s portrait. The queen is shown here in profile facing to the right of the coin. She is wearing the royal crown and jewels. Above her head is ‘Elizabeth II Australia’. Below her portrait is ‘1 oz. 9999 Au’ and ‘100 dollars’. ‘JC’ , Jody Clark’s initials, can be seen on the Queen’s right shoulder.

The Perth Mint, established in 1899 as a satellite location to the Royal Mint, has been making legal tender for the people of Australia for a very long time. They have also been making commemorative bullion coins for a very long time. When you have been doing something for a very long time you tend to get good at it and boy is the Perth Mint good at it. They certainly know how to make coins the traditional way but have taken these traditions and added modern techniques of coin-making like color and gilding to create really special coins. The mint is now making trends with their popular coins series like the Lunar Series III.

With the 2022 1 oz Australian Gold Lunar Tiger coin you have a beautiful coin that is made by a trusted mint, is very popular and is limited to a minting of only 30,000 coins worldwide. This all adds up to a coin you simply must add to your collection before they are all gone.
