Honoring the Year of the Tiger from the Chinese lunar calendar, the 2022 ½ oz Australian Gold Lunar Tiger coin looks striking in ½ oz bullion grade .9999 fine gold. This coin is part of the super popular Lunar Series III featuring designs of the animals in the Chinese lunar calendar. Some of the coins in this series sell out.
- 1/2 oz .9999 fine gold BU grade
- 50 dollars face value backed by the Australian government
- Individual coins packaged in protective capsule
- Obverse image is Jody Clark’s Queen Elizabeth II
- Reverse image is tiger and Chinese character for tiger
For this design, artist Monique Reeves portrays a tiger turned back left toward its tail with its jaws open so you can see its fierce teeth. The image is highly detailed and you can see the tuft of hair on its chest and the characteristic stripes across its body. To the left of the tiger is the Chinese character for tiger and ‘TIGER 2022’. Further left is a ‘P’, Perth Mint’s mint mark.
Reeves’ initials, ‘MR’, are seen in the rock.
Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of this coin with her portrait by Jody Clark. She is shown here facing the right with her diadem crown, dangle earrings and a necklace. Above her head is written ‘Elizabeth II Australia’. Below her portrait is ‘½ oz 9999 Au’ and ‘50 DOLLARS’. On the queen’s right shoulder are Clark’s initials, ‘JC’.
Originally founded as another location for the Royal Mint, the Perth Mint has gone from just making coinage for Australia to also making some of the most beautiful collector’s coins and bullion. With a long tradition of minting coins and bullion, the mint has shown they can blend traditional expertise with modern trends in minting. Now they are trend setters themselves with some of the most popular series of coins that collectors love to have in their collection.
