2021 is a momentous year for the United States Mint. Last year, the mint announced its plans to release an entirely new version of the classic American Gold Eagle Coin. The reverse of the coin was being given a complete makeover, while the obverse would be touched-up using new state-of-the-art minting technology. The time has finally come; Hero Bullion is accepting preorders for the 2021 American Gold Eagle Coins. This page is for the 1/10 Oz American Gold Eagle Coin, but we also offer other denominations, including the full 1 Oz, ½ Oz, and ¼ Oz variants.

The key change from the Type 1 to the Type 2 American Gold Eagle happens on the reverse side. The original design has been in place for over thirty years; it depicted a bald eagle in motion, flying toward its nest and family. The new design ditches the old commitment to a moving eagle. Now, a single bald eagle stares proudly into the distance. Its feathers are fully visible and rendered in spectacular detail. Oh, and did we mention that this fantastic piece is minted using 1/10 Troy Ounce of extremely fine gold bullion?

Key Features:

  • 1/10 Oz pure gold bullion.
  • Face value of $5 USD backed by the United States government.
  • Obverse Depiction: Walking Lady Liberty with increased detail.
  • Reverse Depiction: A Bald Eagle’s close-up profile.

We’ve always recognized the importance of fractional denominations to many collectors. We offer collectors the opportunity to get a piece of the action on this brand new classic coin design in a few different ways. The largest available denomination of the American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coin is the 1 Oz variant. This version of the coin is the smallest we have available and can come shipped in either an individual plastic flip or in a plastic tube of multiple coins. Collectors with an affinity for the American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coin might consider buying multiple 1/10 Oz pieces at one time. Doing so combines a great degree of liquidity with the same collectability we’ve come to appreciate with this piece.

The reverse-side alteration to this classic coin design is the main driving force behind the hype it has already won among collectors. The brand new reverse design features a still portrait of a bald eagle’s head as it stares off into the distance. The remarkably pure gold used in this coin allows its designers an unprecedented amount of detail. But the obverse also gets a makeover; the designers of the Type 2 variant of the American Gold Eagle have added more detail and texture to the original design of Walking Lady Liberty.

There have been few bullion coin releases in the past decade as exciting as the Type 2 of the American Gold Eagle. This new coin design takes everything we love about the classic U.S. Mint piece and kicks it up a notch, revitalizing the obverse while completely redoing the reverse. As always, we take great pride in making sure that your 1/10 Oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coin comes shipped in perfect BU condition.
