The Rwanda African Wildlife Series has built a global following since its launch in 2008, and the 2015 African Buffalo issue shows why. Each year brings a completely new design struck in 1 oz of .999 fine silver, and production closes when the next release arrives — keeping quantities low and collector interest high. The obverse is anchored by a textured, high-relief map of Africa filling the upper two-thirds of the field. Below it, an adult buffalo stands in three-quarter profile with its distinctive curved horns rising prominently above its head. A calf stands close beside it on broken ground, adding a sense of scale and naturalism to the composition. The inscriptions arc cleanly around the rim, identifying the series name, year, and metal content.
The reverse carries the official coat of arms of Rwanda, a detailed central shield flanked by a sorghum plant and a branch, with a traditional hut and interlaced rope knot beneath. The motto Ubumwe-Umurimo-Gukunda Igihugu — meaning Unity, Work, Patriotism — appears on the scroll at the base. Inscriptions are rendered in Kinyarwanda, giving the coin a distinctly Rwandan character on this side.
Each coin is struck in brilliant uncirculated condition by BH Mayer’s Mint in Germany and sealed in its original mint packaging. The coin measures 40mm in diameter and weighs 31.1 grams. Multiples of ten ship in intact factory-sealed mint strips.
