The Oklahoma Goldback series launches with one of the most historically charged designs in the entire Goldback catalog. The 100 denomination — the largest in the series — honors Libertas, the virtue of liberty, through a composition built around a specific and profound moment in American military history: the liberation of Dachau by Oklahoma’s own 45th Infantry Division on April 29, 1945. As an Alpha release, this note carries limited mintage status, marking it as a first-edition issue that will not be reproduced in this form.

The obverse is the most narratively ambitious design in the Goldback series to date. Libertas dominates the upper composition — a modernized, battle-ready Liberty figure whose flowing gown of stars and stripes draws directly from the figure on the Oklahoma State Seal and echoes the Walking Liberty Half Dollar design that circulated during World War II itself. She holds a sword aloft in one hand and a shield bearing the Great Seal of Oklahoma in the other. Below her, soldiers of the 45th Infantry Division press forward across a battlefield — a unit forged from the Oklahoma National Guard in 1923, with an extraordinary number of Native American service members drawn from the Five Civilized Tribes. Their shield, which bore the Thunderbird emblem sacred to Southwestern Native tradition, gave the division its enduring nickname. Sherman tanks, jeeps, and aircraft fill the background, placing the scene in the full mechanized context of the European theater. Above, a bald eagle soars beneath a crack of lightning shaped as the Thunderbird — protector and bringer of justice in Native tradition. At Libertas’s feet, a broken shackle and a Star of David necklace serve as quiet, deliberate tributes to the prisoners liberated at Dachau and the weight of that mission. One soldier’s pack carries a flowing banner bearing a single word: “Libertas.” Jefferson’s words — “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty” — are inscribed along the base of the scene.
The reverse displays the obverse design as a mirrored negative image. A UV security feature is embedded on the reverse for additional authentication — a detail specific to the Oklahoma series.
