The Noble was the world’s first platinum coin struck specifically for investors. The Isle of Man issued it in 1983, three years ahead of the American Platinum Eagle and five ahead of the Platinum Maple Leaf. The Pobjoy Mint produced the one ounce coin through 1989, and nothing has been added to the supply since. Each holds one troy ounce of .9995 fine platinum.
Key Features:
- Purity and Weight: 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of .9995 fine platinum
- Metal Type: Investment-grade platinum, struck by the Pobjoy Mint
- Obverse Design: Crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
- Reverse Design: Viking longship under sail
The obverse carries a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in an elaborate crown, with a drop earring, pearl necklace, and tight curls beneath the headpiece. ISLE OF MAN runs down the left rim and ELIZABETH II down the right, with the issue year struck at the base. Four small triskelion symbols, the three-legged emblem of the island, sit at intervals around the border.
The reverse shows a Viking longship cutting through open water, its square sail rigged full and worked in a diamond lattice pattern, with a pennant flying from the masthead. The prow curls upward in the traditional Norse style, oars run along the hull, and seagulls wheel on either side. A plaited rope border frames the design. 1 OZ PLATINUM FINE sits above ONE NOBLE at the base. The ship references the Norse kingdom that governed the island from the ninth century.
Coins measure 32.7 mm across with a reeded edge. Brilliant Uncirculated pieces show full detail with only the light contact marks normal to bullion production. Each coin arrives in protective packaging. Issue dates run from 1983 through 1989 and are assigned from available stock, so the specific year cannot be requested.
A closed series, a shrinking survival population, and the distinction of being the first platinum bullion coin ever made give this piece standing that current-production platinum does not have. Order yours today and we will ship it insured in discreet packaging.
