No silver coin trades more easily in the United States than the American Silver Eagle, and this listing covers the original Type 1 issue struck from the program’s 1986 debut through mid-2021. Each coin contains 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver, carries a $1 face value as US legal tender, and arrives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with a random year of our choosing.

Key Features:

  • Purity and Weight: .999 fine silver, 1 troy oz
  • Metal Type: Silver
  • Obverse Design: Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty with LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date
  • Reverse Design: John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield, 13 stars, and E PLURIBUS UNUM banner
  • Eligible for Precious Metals IRAs.
  • Dates range from 1986 to 2021.

The obverse revives Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty, widely considered the finest design in American coinage. Liberty strides toward a rising sun with her gown flowing behind her, the folds of an American flag draped across her shoulders and an armful of oak and laurel branches held at her side. Her free hand extends open toward the horizon. LIBERTY arcs across the top rim, IN GOD WE TRUST sits in the right field, and the date appears at her feet. Weinman created the design for the 1916 half dollar, and the Mint brought it back in 1986 to anchor its flagship silver coin.

The reverse carries John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle, the design that defines the Type 1 era. The eagle spreads its wings behind a striped Union shield, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons and a ribbon reading E PLURIBUS UNUM in its beak, with 13 stars for the original colonies arranged overhead. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and 1 OZ. FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR circle the rim. The Mint retired this reverse in 2021, so the Type 1 supply is now permanently fixed.

Dates vary based on available stock, but every coin is government-guaranteed for weight and purity and delivered in BU condition.

Unmatched liquidity, a classic American design, and a discontinued reverse make the Type 1 Eagle a foundation piece. Add random-year Type 1 Silver Eagles to your stack today.
