The Black Eagle $1 Silver Certificate ran 1899 to 1929 and is so named the Black Eagle for the Eagle on the obverse side that is printed in black ink. The eagle is standing a flag that is furled up on a pole. Above the image is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”. Above each wing is ‘1’. To the left, under its wing, is another 1. To the right under its wing is rendition of the seal that usually appears on the banknote. At the bottom is ‘SILVER CERTIFICATE’ and portraits of Abraham Lincoln (left) and Ulysses S. Grant (right. The Black Eagle note is the only currency to feature the portraits of two presidents on the same side.
On the reverse side of this coin is the logo of the mint who produced these copper coins-ArtBarMint-in the middle. At the top is ‘SILVER CERTIFICATE’ and 1 oz. .999 FINE COPPER’. To the right and the left are ‘ONE’s and the number 1. At the bottom is “UNITED STATES of AMERICA’.
