The Gold Kangaroo is The Perth Mint’s flagship bullion coin, and the 1/10 oz size makes it the easiest way into the series. Each coin carries a tenth of a troy ounce of .9999 fine gold with a $15 (AUD) face value backed by the Australian government, pairing sovereign-mint gold with a reverse that changes every year. Coins ship as random years from 1990 to the present, chosen from available stock.

Key Features:

  • 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 fine gold
  • Australian legal tender with a $15 face value, issued by The Perth Mint
  • Obverse: Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III, depending on year of issue
  • Reverse: an annually changing kangaroo design, offered in BU condition

The series launched in 1987 as the Australian Nugget, its early coins depicting famous gold nuggets, before the mint switched the reverse to the kangaroo in 1990. The change stuck: the kangaroo, one of the world’s largest marsupials and Australia’s most recognized animal, has fronted the coin ever since and turned the series into one of the most collected gold bullion lines anywhere. Every year brings a new composition, a kangaroo bounding past an outback windmill, pausing alert on dry scrubland, or grazing in pairs, always under the arcing KANGAROO inscription with the date, weight, and 9999 GOLD along the rim and the P mintmark nearby. The obverse carries the reigning monarch. Coins dated through 2022 bear an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, including the fifth-generation Ian Rank-Broadley portrait used from 1999 to 2018, while newer issues show King Charles III, framed by AUSTRALIA and 15 DOLLARS.

All coins arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with milled edges. The tenth-ounce format keeps the entry price modest while carrying the full weight of Perth Mint recognition at dealer counters worldwide.

Few fractional coins offer this mix: government backing, three decades of dates to hunt, and artwork that never repeats. Order a 1/10 oz Gold Kangaroo today and claim whichever year fortune sends you.
