Sometimes the beauty of a design is in its simplicity and that is what is on full display with the 1/10 oz America Platinum. The obverse side has the Statue of Liberty viewed in a different way than what we are used to seeing. Here we have a close up of her face. With this view and with detail, we can see the lines in her neck and her kind but determined eyes. She really is the face of Liberty in this design. From the individual hairs on her head to the folds of her robe, the artist really captures all the detail of this great sculpture. Above her head is ‘LIBERTY’. At the bottom left, in the folds of her robe, we see ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’, a Latin phrase that has become a motto of the United States, “FROM MANY, ONE”. To the right of her face is the year of issue and ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’.
The reverse side of the coin has another icon of America, the American bald eagle flying. The eagle is captured here in great detail and seems to exude freedom as it flies across the sky with the sun shining below. Above the eagle is ‘THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’. To the right of the eagle is ‘.9995 PLATINUM 1/10 OZ.” At the very bottom is the denomination which here is ‘$10.’

They are considerably more beautiful than I expected. I’m actually surprised they look so nice considering they are small 1/10’s. In addition, I received 2 1997’s, the first year of issue dates. The numbers are larger than most coins, much larger. And that gives them a better look. I wasn’t expecting the metal to look much different than silver, but there is certainly something about them that makes them slightly different looking than silver. I’ve changed my view on platinum coins and will consider additional purchase. The APE has a much higher premium, however, and this is a stalling point for me. But the same can be said about ASE’s & AGE’s as well, so not a surprise. All in all, this is a beautiful coin with a higher premium. I still recommend.
