There have been many different designs for the Swiss franc but one of the most popular designs was the Helvetia design also known as the Vreneli range. Though a variation of this design with a crowned Helvetia appeared in the late 1880’s this design with an uncrowned Helvetia appeared in 1897 and ran until 1935. The 10 Franc version only ran from 1911-1922. This coin offered here can be from any of these years.

On the obverse is a portrait of Helvetia, the female personification of Switzerland. She appears here with her hair in braids. Behind her are the Swiss Alps. This design was provided by Friz Ulysse Landry in 1895 and quickly became a popular design. Above her is ‘HELVETIA’. Underneath her portrait is Landry’s signature.
The reverse side of this coin has the Switzerland cross with light rays radiating off of it. This cross is traditional to Switzerland and represents their belief in Christianity and has come to symbolize freedom, honor, and loyalty. Below the cross are oak leaves. To the left of the image is ‘10’ and to the right is ‘FR’ for francs. At the bottom of the coin is the year of issue ranging from 1911-1922.
